Yesterday, in Comilla’s Dhulipara area, an attempt was made to kidnap a class 8 student. An open attempt like that in the middle of the day in a public place left everyone speechless in the area. We came to know that the student’s name was Miss. Maysha Uddin Samia. She was returning home from school accompanied by her uncle. A few of the Awami League party members, who are also well known to be creating trouble in an area obstructed Miss. Samia and her uncle’s path upon the instruction of a particular Awami league’s leader called Jalal Uddin Bakshi. They tried to snatch away Miss. Samia but her uncle’s cry for help made a few people appear at the scene which forced them to leave on their motorbikes.

Further investigation revealed that Miss. Samia is the daughter of Mr. Sala Uddin Bakshi who died in 2008. Her mother, Mrs. Aysha Aktar Chowdhury, currently lives in the UK leaving Miss. Samia to the care of her family.

There has been an ongoing issue with the issue of inheritance between Miss. Samia’s mother and her father’s family for which they have been harassed by the local Awami League leader Mr .Jalal Uddin Bakshi and Mr.Jamal Uddin Bakshi, who are the paternal uncles of Miss. Samia. Miss Samia and her mother are to inherit a share of the Bakshi family’s property for which the two uncles have been trying to avoid, and there have been complaints that they are using illegal means to do so. Also on 3rd June this year, Miss Samia was threatened by her uncles and local Awami League party members who scared her on her way to home from school.

We contacted the Local Police station, Comilla Dokkhin Model Thana, to get further information. One of the police officers working there, Mr. Komol Krishno Dhar, told us that they are investigating the matter after receiving a complaint. When we asked whether they are reluctant to take the case against local party leaders, he got furious and accused journalists to be liars and further refused conversation. We also tried to contact the local Chairman, in his office but no one picked received our call.
