2 houses and 1 temple in Sylhet District burnt as Jamat Islami activists set fire on a same night.
Hindu house in Suravi Residential area, a populated residential area in Sreemangal were burnt last night as activists of Jamaat-e Islami Bangladesh threatens the house owner Anondomoyee Deb Moni, and warns her son Pinaki who lives abroad to stop broadcast of his newly started online radio station called Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendro and set fire just after 7pm. He started the station during Shahbagh protest simply to spread the word of the Shahbagh protest to all Bangladeshis living across the globe and demanded supreme punishment for the convicted war criminal Abdul Kader Mollah, Islamic leader of Jamaat-e Islami Bangladesh.
Activists of same political group set fire on a local Hindu businessman Mr Ranjit Ghosh’s house at Subidbazar, Sylhet area on the same night. They entered his house and started to beat and threatened him for his political opinion against war criminals, his desire for the supreme punishment for their leader Abdul Kader Mollah and his recent involvement at the ongoing protest at Sylhet following shahbagh protest. Criminals set fire around 9pm just before they were leaving. Mr Ranjit managed to escape from the house but lost all his valuables.
5 idols were burnt as criminal set a Hindu temple a blaze at Juri Moulvibazar district early yesterday. The priest left the tin-shaded Durga temple at 9.30pm on Wednesday night after worshiping, said Nityaranjan Bhattacharya, president of Sarbajanin Durga Mandir management committee.
The worshipers found the burnt idols of Durga, Ganesh, Laxmi, Saraswati and Kali and informed the police authorities. The activists of Jamaat-e Islami party has set the temple to fire by pouring petrol after midnight, said Nityaranjan Bhattacharya.
Hindus in Bangladesh are always under constant pressure and live in fear of Islamic supremacists and militant groups.
Police refused to comment regarding the matter at the moment.
