faroke millatCelebrated journalist Mr Chowdhury Mohammad Farouque has tragically passed away this past November 1st of 2014. Mr Farouque, 63, who served twice as vice president for the Bangladesh council of editors (BCE), as editor in chief for The “Daily Millat” a mouthpiece of Bangladesh freedom party died of a heart attack in his apartment on Whitechapel, London. Arrangements were made for his body to be buried in Savar, a remote area in the capital city Dhaka. However it wasn’t to be the case as a gang of hoodlums led by one of Savar’s most notorious terrorist’s, Munna, stopped his funeral from taking place there.

Mr Farouque, who was a leading light for the Freedom Party, one of Bangladesh’s most influential political parties at one point, was leading an isolated life here in London after he fell prey to the Awami League’s tyranny. They’d filed several unlawful and false cases against him.

According to our correspondent there, his dead body reached Bangladesh this past November the 9th and after much debate, his friends and relatives agreed that his final resting place should be in Savar. But once his body reached said destination, a band of hooligans spearheaded by terrorist Munna, who is a known accomplice of Savar’s local MP (Member of Parliament) Mr Murad Jong, declared that Mr Farouque’s funeral will not be allowed to take place in Savar. At this point the officer in charge for Savar Police Station Mr Monirul Islam was called to the scene and asked to intervene, but his efforts were in vain.

Several prominent members of the society have condemned and vehemently criticised the appalling actions of the Awami League, over something as sacred as the the burial of a dead person or denying someone his final resting place.

When asked about the incident, ex journalist leader Mr Shawkat Mahmud stated, “That, right there is the true nature of the Awami League for everyone to see. Anyone who is even remotely civilized, is not capable of denying a dead body its final resting place. This has happened all because of local MP Murad Jong.”

None of Mr Chowdhury Mohammad Farouque’s family members were present during the whole incident. It is important to mention that all his family members are currently in hiding out of fear of persecution by the current regime. Mr Farouque’s dead body was accompanied by his son-in-law, Barrister Golam Maruf, who brought it all the way from London to Dhaka to be buried. When asked what he had to say about the whole situation he replied, “I have nothing to say. I can’t offer you anything for I might in myself in trouble as a result. Whatever’s happening is happening right in front of you.” When asked further where he plans to bury the body, now that Savar is no longer an option, he replied, “I have decided that the best place to bury him now is in his hometown beside his mother.”

The whole incident has instilled a lot of apprehension amongst the locals here. Various members of the society have expressed their disgust on this incident and have lamented the atrocities carried out against such a prodigious and well reputed journalist and politician like Mr Chowdhury Mohammad Farouque.
