Woman killed over ‘dowry’

A woman was killed by her husband allegedly for dowry in Satkhira while a man killed by his wife’s paramour in Jessore yesterday and the day before.
In Satkhira, a woman, who was seriously injured by her husband for dowry at Nagarghata village in Tala upazila on Friday, died at night at Satkhira Sadar Hospital on the same day, reports our correspondent.
Deceased Beauty Khatun, 22, was daughter of Enayet Ali of Sharsha village in the same upazila.
Police quoting locals said Beauty got married with Jahangir Alam, 32, son of Ekabbar Hossain of Nagarghata village about two years ago.
Recently, Jahangir demanded dowry from the victim’s parents. As Beauty failed to bring dowry from her parents, he tortured her off and on.
On the day, the couple developed a quarrel over the issue. At one stage, Jahangir hit his wife with a bamboo stick leaving her critically injured, victim’s parents said.
Later, Beauty was rushed to the Sadar hospital where she succumbed to her injuries at night. The killer husband went into hiding.
Victim’s father filed a case with Patkelghata police station accusing Jahangir and his mother Jahanara Khatun.
Police arrested Jahanara in this connection.
In Jessore, a man was killed by the paramour of his wife in Bagharpara upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Diseased Ashutosh Chandra Biswas, 35, was son of Khitish Chandra Biswas of Ghoranath village in the upazila.
Family sources said Mira Rani, 20, wife of Ashutosh developed an extra-marital relationship with a neighbour Roni Chandra just after their marriage.
Ashutosh tried to prevent his wife from the immoral act but in vain, they said. Roni gave Ashutosh death threats several times for standing in the way of his illicit relationship with Mira.
Roni stabbed Ashutosh when he was returning to his house at about 11:30pm on Friday. He succumbed to his injuries at 6:00 am yesterday.
