The government has appointed finance ministry’s Additional Secretary Md Muslim Chowdhury as acting chairman of scam-hit Sonali Bank Limited.
The ministry’s Bank and Financial Institutions Division announced his appointment in a circular dated May 22.
It said Chowdhury will hold the post until a chairman is appointed.
After Atiur Rahman stepped down as Bangladesh Bank governor facing pressure after the $81 million cyber heist on the bank’s foreign reserves account, Sonali Bank Chairman Fazle Kabir was made the new central bank governor on Mar 16.
Since then, Sonali Bank’s chairman post had been vacant.
